Depression
Depression is a very common experience among teens and adults at some point in their lives. Depression can look different in different people and can exist at various intensities. Depression often develops in response to life events (past or present), can be a result of physiological sources in the body and brain (i.e. hormones, genetics) or a combination of both.
Some symptoms of depression include:
Lack of motivation
Difficulty making decisions
Low self-esteem and negative self talk
Feelings of guilt
Irritability
Sleep and/or appetite disruptions
Thoughts of harming oneself and actual self harm
Not enjoying things one used to enjoy
Physical pains in the body
Substance use or abuse
Symptoms can go beyond what is listed here and are experienced uniquely in each person. Therapy can be very effective to help reduce or eliminate symptoms of depression.
