Anxiety is a natural response to internal or environmental stressors. We all experience anxiety and it is essential to our survival and success. However, when we experience anxiety too much and too often, it can become a problem and interfere with our lives, school, work, and relationships.
Symptoms of anxiety can include:
Excessive worrying
Restlessness and difficulty concentrating
Problems with decision making (trouble deciding or making impulsive decisions)
Difficulty sleeping
Recurring and intrusive thoughts (sometimes accompanied by repetitive behaviors)
Irrational fears
Physical pains in the body or frequent health concerns
Digestive problems
Shortness of breath and panic attacks
Substance use/abuse
Self harm
Symptoms can go beyond what is listed here. Anxiety looks different and is experienced uniquely for each person. Therapy can be very effective to manage and reduce anxiety.
